Inside a class: the two hours

Inside a class

  1. 0:00Settle in. A quick sound check and today's plan.
  2. 0:05Warm-up. A few words from last week, and how your practice went.
  3. 0:15New words. You see this week's words, hear them and say them back.
  4. 0:20New grammar. I show you the pattern in examples first, and you work out the rule.
  5. 0:45A short break.
  6. 0:55Drilling. We say the new pattern together, then practise it in breakout rooms.
  7. 1:15Speaking. You talk in pairs with the week's words and grammar. This is the main part of the class.
  8. 1:40Reading. A short text that uses the new grammar.
  9. 1:50Wrap-up. A quick check of what stuck, what to practise this week, and a look at next week.

Spoken all the way through: no writing. The exam weeks have their own shape.

🎓 By week 60 you can speak, read and listen to Qur'anic Arabic independently, and start accessing Islamic sciences and lectures taught in Arabic.

See a lesson come alive

Every grammar topic has its own short film.

Not a video: the words move, change their endings and join up live on the page, with captions, an English guide and Arabic voices. Here's Week 2's, free to watch.

The film starts with sound when you press it.Open it full screen →

The learning platform

Your own Arabic playground, between lessons.

Each week's lesson to go over at your own pace, games and stories made from its words, and an AI partner who's always up for a chat: something you'll want to open, not another app to feel guilty about.

Straight from the platform

01

Real practice, not just quizzes.

Each week's lesson has a dialogue to hear and repeat, the new words with their audio, a reading passage, listening and speaking practice, and exercises that mark themselves.

A reading passage in Arabic about reading a daily portion after dawn, with a multiple-choice question about it
02

Every rule, built to unlock a real ayah.

No grammar in the abstract: each week's rule meets a real ayah, recited by a real reciter and broken down word by word, with a note tying it back to what you've just learned.

The Qur'an Connection card for Surat al-Baqarah 2:212, 'And Allah provides for whom He wills without account,' with the reciter's audio, broken down word by word, and a grammar note on the present tense
03

Play & practise: games that make the words stick.

Race the clock, out-play the computer at cards, crack a root puzzle or find your words in real ayat. Later weeks open escape rooms and errands in an Arabic-speaking town. Every game brings the same words back in a new way, and meeting a word again and again is what makes it stay. Five minutes is plenty.

  • ✓Made only from the words you've been taught up to that week, so you're never guessing
  • ✓Just you and your own best score: no lives, no loot boxes, no leaderboards
  • ✓No music or sound effects: only voices, and the ayat from real reciters
  • ✓Stories to watch or read along with, short poems and a call-and-response chant, all from the same words
Try the gamesWeeks 1 and 2 are free to play. No account needed.
Play & practise: word tiles, playing cards and a root puzzle Four Arabic letter tiles spelling a word, a hand of three word cards with one picked, and the three root letters k-t-b joined to four words built from that root. بَيْتٌ مَسْجِدٌ كِتَابٌ كِ تَ ا بٌ ك ت ب كَتَبَ كِتَابٌ مَكْتَبٌ كَاتِبٌ

Talk with Amira & Ibrahim, your AI conversation partners

Speak or type whenever you like. They answer in fully vowelled Arabic, using only the words you've learned, read their reply aloud and show you a corrected version of what you said. Saturday stops being the only day you speak Arabic.

Always know exactly what's next

Your dashboard opens on today's plan: the words due for review, one game and the next part of your lesson. Your progress follows you from phone to laptop.

Try Weeks 1 and 2 yourself, free.

No account, no booking: the lessons, their games and films, and the AI conversation partners. See exactly what a week feels like before you book.

Curriculum

Built to unlock the Qur'an directly.

Arabic grammar looks enormous until you see its shape: just three kinds of word, and a handful of ideas growing from each. This is the map we walk together, week by week.

Open the map of Arabic grammar
الاسم Nouns: things & descriptions الفعل Verbs: actions & time الحرف Particles: the small words that join it all
الإِعْرَابُ Holding every branch together: iʿrāb, how word-endings show each word's job in the sentence.

Plus plenty more, all sequenced week by week, all the way to reading independently.

From fintech to full-time Arabic teaching

I spent over ten years in fintech, teaching Arabic on the side for much of it, until the balance tipped and I left to teach full-time. Same rigour, work I care about more: helping adults read and understand the Qur'an for themselves.

My own Arabic started at UCL (Economics with Arabic) and studying abroad in Morocco, then years of hunting down what actually works. This course is the result: 7+ years of teaching and curriculum-building, including everything on this platform.

Taught live online from Manchester, so wherever you're joining from, you're in the same class. A question before you commit? Get in touch: I read every message myself.

He is great with students of all ages — I've been a student in both larger classes and 1-to-1. A knowledgeable, enthusiastic and dedicated teacher. Most friendly and approachable. 100/10 recommend, would not choose another teacher ever!

Questions people ask first

Starting out

Who is the course for?

Adults (17+) who want to read, hear and understand the Qur'an's language for themselves. It's 100% online, so you can join from anywhere.

Do I need to read Arabic script already?

Yes. The course is taught in vowelled Arabic script, with no transliteration in the readings or exercises, so you need to be able to sound out the letters with their vowel marks. Slowly is fine. New to the letters? Learn them first with our free Week 0 guide (with audio, no account needed). Not sure? Open Week 1 for free and try the first lines.

I already know some Arabic. Where would I start?

Everyone starts at Week 1 together, and the weeks you already know are revision for you. Take the free placement test to see your level: your result goes with your booking, so I can plan your free lessons around it.

Can I try the platform before I book?

Yes. Weeks 1 and 2 are free with no account needed: the lessons, their games and their grammar films. The Qur'an reader is free for everyone.

The live class

What happens in the 2 free lessons?

They are your first 2 live lessons of the Saturday class, on Zoom, with me. I'll email you the Zoom link before your first lesson. There's no payment for them: you only pay if you decide to carry on.

What time is the class where I live?

Saturdays, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM UK time, live on Zoom.

Can I join after the class has started?

No. Enrolment closes when the class starts, and there's no joining part-way through. If you've missed the start, leave your email and I'll tell you when a new class opens.

Do I have to write in class?

No. Every class is spoken: you talk from the first minute. Between classes, the learning platform has reading, listening and speaking practice, games and word review.

Are the lessons recorded?

No. The classes are live and aren't recorded, but the learning platform has every lesson, with its audio and exercises, so you can go back over anything you've covered.

Price and access

What's included in the price?

One live 2-hour class every week, the learning platform while your course runs and for one month after your last class, the AI conversation partners, assessments with a certificate of completion, and a summary pack to keep. See the prices.

By bank transfer, for the course length you choose (20, 40 or 60 weeks). Your first 2 live lessons are free, and you only pay if you decide to carry on after them.

How long can I use the learning platform?

While your course runs, and for one month after your last class: everything up to the week you reached stays open, so you can go back over it. After that, you keep your summary pack.
